Kripalu Yoga is a form of the more commonly known, Hatha Yoga. Kripalu (Krih-pah-loo) is the Sanskrit word for being compassionate.
Kripalu Yoga involves alignment, breath and awareness. Students are encouraged to honor their bodies and to work according to the limits of their individual flexibility and strength.
We end each class with our palms together in front of our hearts and say Namaste. Namaste (Nahm - ah - stay) means - to honor the light within (ourselves, each other and all creatures on Earth).
For a teacher and student, saying Namaste allows two individuals to come together energetically to a place of connection and timelessness, free from the bonds of ego-connection.
Please stop if you feel any pain. Discomfort is expected, pain is not. Discomfort is tension, shaking and fatigue. Pain is sharp or electric. Please know the difference in your body.
Yoga is about personal growth. Please do not try to compete with anyone else. This can cause injury!
Breathe smoothly and continuously as you move and stretch. Do not hold your breath or strain to attain any position unless you are instructed to.
Please let me know if you are under a doctor’s care or if you have had recent major surgery. I will then be able to give you special guidance. If you are pregnant, you should check with your health care provider before entering into any exercise program including yoga.
Be sure to ask questions during class about anything that is unclear to you. I would be happy to speak to you privately about any questions or concerns, as well.
When you enter the classroom, leave your cares and troubles outside the door. Allow yourself to enter into the experience of being in the present.
It is best to practice yoga on an empty stomach. Wait at least two hours after a full meal before practicing. If you need a small snack before class, drink a glass of juice along with some nuts or fruit.
Drink plenty of water following any exercise program including yoga.
